connections

type 1

advantage - maybe steel wire can run trough entire stucture
disadvantage - no ablilty to tighten connection

type2

advantage - no holes on exterior side
disadvantage - patented by ikea

next week's presentation

what are results I want to show:

research questions to be answered

- what shape is best for surface approximation

- what is the best elementsize in terms of handling and aproximation

- which is the most suitable connection in terms of strength and flexibility of 2 types

- which is the best solution for the edge-profiles 2 types

evaluation of the design after the fabrication of the prototype

week7 - milling prototype

milling prototype is an altered version of the final model, 3axis milling machine can mill angled objects but the lower corner cannot exceed a 90 degree angle.

milling on both sides increases shape flexibility

profile model

edges are not planar surfaces when master surface is not a sphere

what do I want to know about the profiles?

- possible edge configurations on twisted surface
- does it matter that surfaces are twisted?

parameters
T thickness
d1 profile depth1
d2 profile depth2
alpha profile angle1
beta profile angle2
gamma profile angle3

feedback wk5

- keep in mind that the aspects of the overall system are take into account, without trying to work out everything completely. Only one or two aspects have to be fully researched.

planning:

wk5 - redefine context of research
- parametric model of edges/ research edge behavior

wk6 - prototype some elements in order to test findings

wk7 - final presentaion prep.

wk8 -

milling limits

cutters in madcam from 1mm on

profiled edges for keeping out weather. no connections implied yet

Feedback wk4

1. define the limitations of the plan:
- limitations in size according to material available (or other? easy handlig maybe?
- limitations in extra thickness to approximate a round shape to what is reasonable
- limitations in shape according to what is possible with milling (drill sizes, angles etc),
- limitations to the resin shell minimum edge radius

within a more narrow context, limitations or boundaries can more easy be found.

2. make an action plan of what you expect to be able to deal with.
- prototyping
- structural calculations
